Do you have damage on your windshield from a stone or other flying object?
Windshield damage like those listed below may get much larger resulting in a
costly windshield replacement if ignored. Have your windshield professionally
repaired BEFORE the damage spreads! If the damage is the size of a quarter or
smaller it usually can be repaired successfully.
Don't let "today's little problem" turn into tomorrow's big headache.
If you get a windshield chip:
- Schedule your appointment immediately
- Cover the chipped area with clear tape. While this won't keep the chip from spreading, it will keep moisture and contaminants out of the chip, allowing for a cleaner and clearer repair. Be careful not to touch the chip, and don't attempt to repair it yourself. That could cause contamination of the area as well, and may make it impossible to repair. Any damage from a rock chip to a crack is likely to spread if left untouched.
- During the winter months - park the vehicle in a garage at night (temperature change could increase the damage and dew/rain in the crack would delay repair).
- During the summer months - keep the windshield as cool (not cold) as possible - if you park in the sun, leave your windows down a little to avoid temperature build up). For best results the vehicle should be moved to a shaded area prior to the repair.
Windshield repairs will be somewhat visible. Visibility depends on the type of break, severity of the damage, and if contamination has occurred.
Repair Procedure
Wise-Cracks Windshield Repair uses state-of-the-art computerized equipment and only the highest quality resins. Our repair process bonds the glass back together typically hiding 80%-90% of the visible damage.
Our technician will:
- Inspect and clean the break area.
- Drill a resin injection point with a high-speed specialty drill. Sometimes it is necessary to enlarge the impact point to allow for optimal injection of the resin.
- Position and seal an injector over the break.
- Implement the computerized vacuum process to remove all trapped air from the break.
- Inject a clear, acrylic resin into the break to completely fill in and seal the damage
- The computerized system will continue with pressure cycles until the resin has completely filled the chip. Sometimes this process must be repeated to allow for an optimal repair.
- Expose the repair area to three minutes of UV rays to cure the resin.
This entire process is done in less than ½ hour and is guaranteed as long as you own your vehicle.
